SermonWeek is built on the generous work of translators, scholars and volunteers. Scripture is always shown exactly as published, word for word.

Bible translations

Verse text for KJV, WEB, ASV, YLT and Darby is from eBible.org; BSB is from berean.bible. Only the text is used: we don't add notes, headings or changes. SermonWeek's AI drafts always quote the KJV.

Word study ("Go deeper")

Greek text

Greek words come from TAGNT. We keep only the words found in at least one of the SBL Greek New Testament (SBLGNT), the Textus Receptus (TR) or the Byzantine text, and each word shows which of those editions has it. SermonWeek does not show or claim to show the Nestle–Aland (NA28) text.

Hebrew definitions

For Hebrew words we show the STEPBible gloss, lemma, Strong's number, parsing and occurrences. TBESH's fuller brief definitions are based on the Abridged Brown–Driver–Briggs (BDB) lexicon by Online Bible, which asks for permission before use, so they stay hidden until that permission is granted.

Changes we make to STEPBible data

As the CC BY 4.0 license asks, here is what we change. We rearrange the tables into one record per chapter and per Strong's number. We use only the main Hebrew word rows and the main (disambiguated) Strong's number. We drop the Greek words that appear only in editions other than SBLGNT, TR or Byzantine, along with the edition codes for other editions. We remove HTML formatting and cross-references to the Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament, and we shorten long definitions and LSJ excerpts. We join morphology code descriptions with "·". Occurrence counts are our own tally from TAHOT and TAGNT. We download the data during setup and do not redistribute the files.
