Pastor Sam Reed · Cedar Creek Baptist Church · October 25, 2026 0:15
Scripture: Psalm 23:1-6; John 10:11 (KJV)
Big idea: The LORD is not just a shepherd. He is my shepherd. 4:05
1. The Shepherd provides
"The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want." Rest is not a reward you earn; it is a gift the Shepherd gives. He leads, He does not drive, and sometimes He makes us lie down because we need rest more than we know. 6:30 9:10
He restoreth my soul. Sheep wander. So do we. And the Shepherd does not give up on a wandering sheep. 12:20
2. The Shepherd is with us in the valley
We walk through the valley of the shadow of death. We are not staying there, and we are not alone. 14:45
In Psalm 23:4, David's words turn from "he" to "thou." In the dark valley he stops talking about the Shepherd and starts talking to Him. The rod protects, the staff guides, and both comfort. 17:30 20:05
3. The Shepherd brings us home
He prepares a table before us, and goodness and mercy follow us, which means they pursue us, all the days of our life. 22:40
In John 10:11 Jesus said, "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." The Shepherd of Psalm 23 went to the cross for His sheep. 25:50
