Dear Cedar Creek family,
What a gift to open Psalm 23 together on Sunday. Pastor Sam reminded us that David did not write this psalm only for funerals. He wrote it "for the road we walk every day of our lives." 2:40
The heart of the message was one little word: my. "Not just a shepherd. My shepherd. This is personal." 4:05
We saw three things about our Shepherd:
- He provides. "Rest is not a reward you earn. It is a gift the Shepherd gives." 6:30
- He is with us in the valley. We walk through the valley, not into it to stay, and we do not walk alone. In verse 4, David stops talking about God and starts talking to Him: "for thou art with me." 14:45 17:30
- He brings us home. "Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life." That word follow means to pursue: God's goodness and mercy are chasing you down. 22:40
Pastor Sam closed by pointing us to Jesus, who said in John 10:11, "I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep." 25:50
This week: pray Psalm 23 slowly, one verse each morning. Name the valley you are walking through, and think of one person in a valley right now. Call them, sit with them, and remind them they are not alone. 28:30
